Breeding Lines to avoid

Is there any information on the internet of the breeding lines to avoid that are known for producing puppies with genetic problems? I've had a look but can't find anything relating to this (unless I am not using the correct search criteria).

i think your best bet would be to run any prospective breeder of your pup-to-be past Pam (wildmore) as she's the sage on health problems & problem lines!

Honestly, she won't mind - if she can steer someone away from the problems she's more than happy to help!

And questions are never a problem, if you need to ask, then ask! It's always better to get the facts than to look back & wish you had!

Pam pointed me in the direction of my new addition! She certainly knows her stuff! And she didn't tell me to sod off when I kept asking for advice!

LindaM will become famous soon enough
I don't know Pam but no way would I think she would find you being a nuisance asking questions. If I was every privileged enough to have another of this wonderful breed I would be asking questions and then some....

I would first have a think about what type of gsd you would like...
ie longcoat, shortcoat, black/tan, coloured, sable, germanic, english, working line, show line etc - do your research online finding out about characteristics etc and then once you have an idea you can find out what breeders breed the type you prefer.
Once you have found a breeder/s - ask for advice on pedigrees as to what is in there, you can use the health checker on the kc website to look into the hip and elbow scores and inbreeding % - and make a note of these on possible puppy pedigrees. If you are not happy with what you see - ie over breed average (18) uneven (difference of more then 5 between the hip scores) not many generations scored etc.
Then you can rule out breeders/lines you are not too keen on from this information.
When you have the pedigree's that you feel comfortable ask someone to look at them for you.
You could ask pam (wildmoor) on here, Chris hazell (breed health co-ordinator) or Dorothy Cullum (gsd info group/cermar gsd)

They will help you weigh up the risks of what the pedigree may or may not contain....

We love endless questions, thats how we all learn,... I doubt anyone thinks of questions as `being a nuisance`
