New Member.

Evening all.

Thought i would sign up as in 6 weeks im moving into my first house with my girlfriend and ive have always wanted a GSD. Could never have one at home as my parents have dogs anyway so i got to wait until im moved out before i can have one.

Im looking forward to having one. Going on holiday in May/June so wont be having one until im back.

Any tips from anyone for me hopefully being a first time GSD owner?

Thanks

Hello and welcome!

Are you thinking of adopting an adult rescue or raising a puppy?

This forum is brilliant - it's an invaluable source of GSD knowledge! I spend many hours trawling through the threads and I've learned a lot from other people's posts as well as my own questions.

Welcome to the forum, nice to have you along
My suggestions would be to have a good read of anything and everything you can find, including this forum, there is a wealth of information here, and loads of people who are more than willing to answer any questions you care to ask

If you are after a pup,.. then there are good breeders and bad, be carefull, and research, and ask her first, the last thing we want is for you to make a mistake in your choice of breeder.

Where abouts in the country are you?

Im glad you mentioned the good/bad breederd as that is partly the reason for joining.

I wanted to know who is a good breeder etc. Im from Gloucestershire but am willing to travel to find the right pup. Im after a Black an Tan,working line pup preferebly.

Some show line dogs have too much of a curved or "banana" type back in the pictures ive seen. Whether its the way there stood or stacked im not sure. Just dont like the stance and some ive seen walking looks as though there hips are about to give up.

Hi Timmo

I joined in November (I think) and not yet a GSD owner and all I can say is research the breed and read as much as you can. Learn about the different lines and make sure you're getting a pup that has hip and elbow scores and health tests.

Working line might be too much for you to handle if you are a first time GSD owner. I was thinking the same as you in the beginning but decided to go for a dog with working/show lines.

I, like you, thought that straight back and sloped back were different but I was told on here that it's just the way they stand.

I have bored my friends and family with GSD talk and they look at me as if I am talking another language.

I am so glad that I joined this forum as I have learnt heaps and I definitely feel ready to own a GSD.

I have books, dog magazines, been watching videos, reading about raw feeding, etc.

The experts on here will tell you more. I'm still a mere pup myself really as I am still learning

Good luck with your seacrh.

Hello and welcome

Im in the gloucestershire area so, depending on where abouts you are I can recommend some good trainers and perhaps ones that I wouldnt use again!

Thankyou for your reply. Been reading a fair bit about the bredd, puppy training etc. Had a DVD for christmas all about the breed, puppy training etc.

My Brother-In-Law owns his own security company an has a Sable short haired GSD. His name is Diesel, absolute lovely dog but is very good as a guard dog. Spent quite a bit of time with getting used to the way they are and i cant wait to own one.

Are there any Breeders in Gloucestershire on here i can talk to?
