Do you allow your dog(s) on the furniture?

A silly question but do you allow your dog(s) on the furniture?

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to doing so?

No.
I am lucky in that my dog prefers to lay on the cold floor and shows little interest on laying on the furniture, so it is not a problem for either of us.
I used to have a dog that was allowed to sleep on the sofa and I found it a nightmare, the hair and dirt was nasty and he resented giving up his "bed" when we had visitors and not enough seats.
I much prefer our current situation and if I occasionally want a sofa cuddle with him, I invite him up (he often turns me down thought ).

My dogs are allowed on the furniture, but only when invited, and must get off when instructed to do so!! Ozzie isn't really much of a cuddler, so he very rarely gets on the sofa. Mason quite enjoys his cuddles, so he is coming up occasionally! Terriers are terrible, they are right couch potatoes!

My lot are allowed on but always get off when asked and when people visit they don't even attempt to go on the sofas they just go to their beds. Other than wee Lizzy who finds a suitable sucker and plonks herself on their lap for the evening! She does get off if she's told to.

Only disadvantage is if ry are dirty you need to clean it off and if they are not obedient enough they don't always get off when told so you need to be firm if you allow them on and make sure they get off when asked.

We didn`t at first as I did not want her jumping down from sofas and beds as I felt this was not good on her growing joints and she learnt that these were our spaces. Now she is older I allow her on furniture but she gets off when asked and gets up when invited.

No I'm 'the nasty lady' lol in my house dogs stay on floors. They have numerous VERY nice beds so my sofa is MINE! I used to occasionally when it was just Del but the fur and dirt was an absolute pain in the backside so when I got a 2nd GSD............no thanks!

It is a greatly debated topic and you will get various different answers and opinions but I personally found Del's behaviour to be a lot better when he wasn't allowed on the furniture. Kind of more respectful and he listened more. But each to their own and all that :-)

I won't be allowing it. Sofa and beds for adults. Dog bed and/or crate for dog. Had enough with removing cats hairs from the sofas. I don't want to add dog's fur to it too. Cat has been banned from sofas now anyway.

That is one advantage to having leather sofas, the fur doesn't stick.
I can remember the days of draylon sofas and the nightmare of having to hoover the seat covers every other day! My cats are allowed on the sofa but they prefer a nice comfy human to anything else.
