We did them same for Deez, he went to car boot sales and markets plus down the local high street on a Saturday so he's now not fazed at all by loud noises and crowds. Plus I find that people want to fuss him more and more when they see you out and about so he's totally used to people reaching out to touch him. He adores kids, and often has our neighbours little girl and her friends come round and knock for him to play out with them.

Mine go to Ringcraft from 13wks max, before that I socialise them with vacinated dogs I know, they also travel by bus, car and train and spend time with people who have behavioural and learning dissabilities so they dont react to unpredictable behaviour by humans.

Angry

Henry goes almost everywhere with me and is getting used to horses at the moment - really cute!

He is now 15wks and had been coming along really well with other dogs and of course my two children (8 and 5), but last Saturday as we sat beside a lake in the sun a man with an irish pitbull terrier walked over to us with his dog on a harness. Henry didnt even get one sniff of the dog b4 it attacked him and locked its jaws on his head.

The idiot with the dog fought to pull his dog away whilst Henry was screaming in pain and fear. Thankfully my partner got in the middle of them and resuced Henry from its jaws. The poor thing was terrified! I was livid and the dog owner said nothing, not one word! - he just looked shocked and didn't even shout his dogs name - nothing! We rushed to a local vet and he had surgery - stitches in his mouth, his neck and forehead.

5 days later and his stitches are fine - his hair is regrowing and I have been busy re-socialising him with friendly dogs I know well...the last thing I want is a nervous dog = dangerous as far as I'm concerned. He is doing really well and apart from lying down the second he saw a poodle he now greets all dogs and horses in his usual keen and friendly manner...thank god!

I just went back to basics and so far, so good.

Sorry to hear about Henry, glad hes on the mend at the trauma hasnt affected him greatly. I have 1 who is dog to dog aggressive whilst on lead even with dogs he knows due to the vast number of attacks on him by various bullbreed crosses. Off lead he is only aggressive to this type of dog, and white dogs.

before my pup had his injections I would carry him places with me even if it was to sit at the top of my road which is quite busy...to get him used to the noises etc. I also took him to training classes - but if Im honest these did not do much good! as when we went to them a couple of little cross breeds would bark constantly at him which would distract him. I would also take him to my nephews school at home time so the kids would fuss him lots. Mostly I would involve him with my family and friends - asking people to come and visit - not a difficult ask I might add hehe....I would also walk him round the shops and take him into dog friendly places such as pets at home. One thing I would say when socialising is to make sure its with the right people - my now EX husband brought one of his friends round who thought it would be funny to drop a yellow pages as hard as he could in front of my pup when he wasnt looking. Luckily I did not make any fuss or give any reaction as not to instill any fear into him. It was only afterwards when the guy was leaving did I say to him - I'd like to see you be so 'brave' when he is fully grown!!...but never the less it doesnt seem to have done any harm

Hiya

I took Sheba to puppy classes, which she used as a girls night out. Although it did nothing for her training, it helped a lot with the socialisation. I also walk her daily along the canal banks where we meet lots of other dogs, ducks, swans geese, horses, cows etc in the fields. Shes not too happy about people whizzing past on bicycles.

I also have two children whose friends regularly come round so shes used to kids and teenagers.

Shes a little bit too outgoing and social now as she treats every dog we meets as a potential plaything.........I could do with some ideas of how to stop this happening, as she's getting bigger some peoples perception of her is begining to change

Ideas welcome.

Sue and Sheebs x
