Both my dogs bark if the bell goes , they dont stop until we let in whoever is there then they are fine except jumping up, if its a sales person and they stay at the door they just keep barking and wont be quiet no matter what i say, most strangers leave things rolled up in the gate , only the odd one will push anything through the door then Jet picks it up and brings it in still barking lol,

Mine both go bonkers. They wait for the postman in the morning, and if i don't get there quick enough, Barney eats it.
They can normally hear anyone coming, before they get to the door. I always put lucy out the back if someone is coming in, but Barney is fine with everyone, as long as i let them in, he does.

Do You Own Your Front Door Area?
Hi George's Mum
If you own the area around the front door and have trained your dog to react how you want it to react i.e. it waits for your signal before being able to react then any dog is capable, when the doorbell rings, of just sitting and waiting patiently for as long as the owner wants it too.

Sorry if this is a bump but...
When the doorbell goes at our house it's a race to the door if i'm on my own, both Shaney and Kai like to make it clear if you've come looking for trouble you may have come to the right place lol. When i answer the door they both move back when i ask them, if its someone i know and i let them in the are all tails wagging happy to see them. If it's someone i don't know there's always some rumbling growls in the background to let them know they aren't coming in. I get a lot of startled salesmen and postmen, but our regular postman knows not to be afraid, they're just protecting me. Although i don't advocate encouraging aggression i know they are just looking out for me and i'm proud of my boys, they know when to go to their bed

1) Bo will tell the whole street 'there's somebody at the door'...Roo will then decide it's worth a good ole lung rattle and join in!
2) Bo carried on barking because he can! Roo will shut up because she's a good girl lol
3) Bo whines with excitement and gets very silly spinning and the like...Roo does laps of the lounge, daft moo!

My collie is the noise maker! people only have to touch the front gate and he's barking, He will stay back from the door when told but still working on the barking.
Tess is fab, she will wait up the top of the hallway and watch whos visiting. She wont bark but waits for the realease signal when she can go say hello all friendly (she soft as slop!) She does have a tendency to stare with that wonderful GSD stare that unnerves strangers and I will always like that!!! Sorts the riff raff out dont it!!
