How do your doggies react?
How do your Doggie's react to a knock on your front door ???
How do they act if it's someone they don't know ???
And how do they act when it's someone they do know ???

Some guard dog I have
George just about raises an eyebrow, when someone knocks on the door unless it's my dad dressed as Father Christmas!!!!!!!!
If it's someone he knows, he tends to pace a bit, hoping for some attention.
If it's some one he doesn't know he just watches, may even grumble a little bit, I think he senses my mood, if it's late he might manage a couple of barks.

Wag
Ty definitely needs some Guard dog training.
He sees anyone at the front door as the source of some more possible attention and will come with me, tail wagging furiously to see who is there. Not a sign of any barking or growling....
He doesn't really stir at all when any post comes through the letterbox either, maybe wanders over and gives it a good sniff if he feels inclined!
So much for a big fierce boy!
Heyho.
Quite like having him with me to answer the door though, especially if I'm in the house alone and / or if it's in the evening- people's reactions are to take a step back if they don't know him as he is quite a big lad.... Makes me feel a bit safer and i'm sure he'd come to my rescue if he thought i felt threatened!

The strangest thing I ever saw was with my last GSD. Whenever the doorbell went or anyone knocked he used to go mental. One night I was down the pub with a few of the boys from work (with the wife's permission before you have a go) and the wife was in the house on her own.
There was a knock at the door and the dog just calmly walked to the front door without a murmur but stayed behind it. When the wife opened the door there was a drunken squaddie who was clearly at the wrong door (which the wife told him). Well he wouldn't leave and sort of tried to get into the house so the wife pulled the door wide open and there was this monstrous GSD giving him the best all teeth smile he could muster. Needless to say, he didn't hang around much longer after that.
What I found weird was, I can understand him sensing Julie's fear, if any, but he instinctively knew from the second the doorbell went. And he used to bark like mad the second the doorbell went but not this time. Bizarre!!
Bonny is a totally different matter altogether. She doesn't bark at all when the doorbell goes which I'm kinda glad of as she does bark at strange noises.

Deez will always give his best "big dog" bark when the door goes, then as soon as the door opens he just wants whoever's there to love him....although not everyone wants to when they see him so I too always feel really safe when home alone.
In fact one night I was home alone, just me and him when the key went in the door. Deez ran to the door expecting Dad to come through but instead it was a friend of ours who'd had come home with Dan but for some reason entered the house just before him. Deez completely changed from submissive calm boy to total guard dog even though he knows him! His heckles went up, his teeth were bared and he was growling, until Dan walked in and he was back to being submissive with both of them.....after that Deez layed by me for most of the evening though.

Mine bark, if its someone I know they are quiet when I go to the doors otherwise growl untill told to be quiet, I dont discourage it as you never know whos going to be at the door, aslong as they quit when told its not a problem.

my dog reacts by wagging its tail, waiting for someone to come through the door and expects to be made a fuss off but that is only if anyone rings the bell or the knocker, but if anyone knocks on the door with the knuckle he barks like mad especially at night, He's nothing but a big softie, but when I take him out for walks some people actually cross away from him

When we used to have 3 in the house at once and the doorbell went or a knock at the door..........well.....it was very ......you should of seen how quick people got to the end of the garden .I would never let anyone in when they were loose in the house...even though.....they were all very friendly and lovable,we used to let peeps in then the dogs.
Now we are just left with Ruby and shes too deaf to hear the doorbell or a knock now .
However..she does sometimes just stand in the middle of the living room and bark at the window........i alsways thank her and say good girl............well she is still my vicious guard dog .

My Blaez barks and growls when he see somebody even approach the house! )Unless he knows them of course) Leah is very placid, however, if you are a cat walking down our path ....now thats a different story!
