Drooling
Hi everybody,
Just some advice/help wanted please?
We've taken our 12week old gorgeous boy Tyson out in the car on very short trips (ten minutes at most) and he goes in and out no problem, but he is drooling ALOT! You could fill a swimming pool with all his drool. We have to keep two towels in the car one to cover the seats and another to wipe his mouth and feet down.
Is this normal for a pup or is that a sign of car sickness??
Sometimes we might only get off the drive and he starts drooling, just a little concerned over this.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Emma

Kane is a right sicky poo, he is better now, but as a pup he would drool like crazy at best, at worst the would throw up, he liked the car, but the motion didnt like him, he has grown out of it mostly now, he is 16 months old, but doesnt travel far well even now

Kee used to drool a lot in the begining, and Jass was sick,.. Sam was fine.
This is nomal, it is car sickness and most dogs suffer from it in the begining, if you keep doing what you are doing now, short trips getting longer, carefull on the corners try and keep the ride as smooth as possible, the chance are that as the dog gets more and more used to going out, and the drooling stops.
Try to make it that every time he goes out there is something good at the other end,.. dont make it a chore, try and make it fun,..so even if you are going to the shops, try and stop off at the park, that kind of thing.
If possible try and make the trips before he has been fed

Mischa never drooled as a pup, but she nearly always threw up on a trip longer than 10 mins, until I started taking her to work with me every day - about 30 mins drive. She stopped being sick within a week or so. The more frequently you take him for a drive, the sooner he should grow out of it. I still give Mischa a serenia tablet before a very long drive as a prevention. Also, he should feel less sick if you take him for a drive 4 hrs after his meal (as it would have passed through his stomach by then), or you can buy anti-sickness treats in a pet store, which you can give him 10 mins before the drive. Ginger nut biscuits also help sometimes, but don't feed more than 1/2 a biscuit at a time, as it's loaded with sugar.

My pup jenson used to do that. He would drool every where and then throw up lol. We slowly built up his car rides and now he is 8 months old and can Be in the car for about 30 mins and he is fine. We don't go any further. Away to increase the time scale any longer

Put him in the car every day even if you dont drive anywhere, We have even fed them their meal in the car when they have been bad droolers..it certainly takes their mind off the car

I would say that its a sign of anxiousness with all the drooling.
Thankfully, all of mine have always been good travellers. When we got Bo at 7 weeks old he, & the rest of the litter had already done 100 miles travelling. Then Bo had to travel from Aberdeen to Inverness where we live which is another 100 miles ish.
I think the other members have recommended some good advice for Tyson, & I'm sure he will over come this issue in time.
