Never work with kids and animals

After breaking my arm a few months ago, I have just started taking Abi on walks again and we're having to go back to basics:

I know what you mean..I'm sort of giving up with my son training maya out side..he gets easily distracted by all sort of things..but at least at the end she got it right!

Things are a bit of a struggle at the moment (outdoors) and I've really started to dread walkies!

oh no,sorry to ear that,Maya was going through a 'difficult phase' but now she is responding better with months of training, going back to basics..she is still too protective with my son when we are out so I'm still struggling with that ..is a work in progress..i'm sure you will get there!

Your dog looks to be working happily for Abi. It is just getting the timing right that new dog handlers (whether children or adults!) seem to struggle with initially.

Keep up the good work.

We do have a few problems... because there is a slim chance that Abi could spot someting and lunge, I can no longer walk her on my left (the actual shoulder ball snapped right off when I broke my arm). So we are having difficulties getting her to stay on the right (as you can see in the video).

Heaven knows what her recall is like now and I'm a bit too anxious to let her off the lead to see. I think 80% of her problems are caused by me... my lack of confidence and knowledge

I love reading everyones' stories and seeing their photos... it lifts my spirits

Oops sorry. I think I got confused about the dog's name/girl's name

Are you a member of dog club where you could get advice and support with Abi if needed?

Ouch! That break sounds very nasty

We were going to a local dog class once a week... in fact that's where I broke my arm (I fell over Abi when we were walking single file into the village). After the accident I had to stop going... mainly because the doctor said I couldn't drive... and that I shouldn't walk the dog again until after Christmas. I've been using a dog walker and have only recently started taking her out again (4 times so far, so it all feels like we are starting from scratch). It can only get better

Sorry to hear about your arm - that must have been horrendous and especially since it has disabled you for so long.

Yes - keep the faith! It WILL get better x
