Asbach

Asbach isn't sure what to do with toys, my neighbour came round yesterday with her 3 year old daughter and brought Asbach a squeaky toy handbag, not sure why a handbag but apparently the 3 year old picked it. Asbach hadn't met the little girl before and seemed unsure what he should do, he said hello to Helen but wouldn't go near the little girl and cowered away to his bed. I can only assume he was told off for going near the kids in his previous home. He doesn't know what to make of the toy so I'm wondering if he wasn't allowed to play that often, tried him with a ball and he wasn't sure about that either. I may be wrong as it might just be he's still confused from being in kennels and is still getting used to my house and our visitors.

Ah poor guy, maybe just start playng with him slowly with a ball and show him its fun. Probably going to take more time to get used to small kids but I'm sure it will come. If she was to sit with an adult on the floor and offer him a treat and she was quiet maybe he will come around.

Thanks for the messages, I am taking As with me pretty much evry time I go out whether it be in the car or walking, he is taking more and more notice of his name which is good for having had him just over a week. I have started to try to get him to play a little at a time so he gets more comfortable with toys, I bounced a tennis ball in front of him and at first he just looked at me as if to say "whats that all about", eventually I got him to take it and he promptly took it to his bed and laid down. Its a start!!!!

Regards

Ian

Its funny you mention puppy Beki, As is supposed to be about 2 1/2 years old but when I take him for walks he bounds along like a puppy and when I let him off the lead he jumps around like a puppy, once he calms down then he runs around more like an adolescent.

He's lovely! I'm sure he'll soon get used to his toys and then there'll be no stopping him!

Yeah, he'll get the toy thing sussed soon I'm sure. Getting a bit frustrated with pictures I've taken recently on my phone as I've now got the cable to connect it to the laptop (laptop is ancient so doesn't have Bluetooth), the laptop is now recognising the connection but is asking me to insert the setup disk for the phone, it didn't bloomin well come with a disk!!!!!!! Between me and As we aren't doing well with toys or gadgets lol

Regards

This is so simular to what we are going through with Jazz, Jazz just doesnt know how to play, we have tried almost everything, from balls to tug o war, from tussleing in the front room to, running about outside, and she shows no interest at all.

I have to keep trying, and you should too with Asbach, because a playful dog is a happier dog,. Jazz is three years old and was abused and abandand, so it will take time, it is possible that neither of these dogs will ever learn, the last life maybe too deeply ingrained into them

There is one hopefull sign, Jazz has started to play a little with Kee, the other bitch,.. and to a lesser degree with Sam,.. so maybe if Asbach has a good doggy mate, you can arrange time together and see what happens

I wish you luck,..it may happen, but lots of patience will be needed
