Livestock Sheep

I Thought I would talk about my sheep on another Thread so it didn't interfere with the op in the other section I only have 9 sheep now Hebradeian and swaledale and there crosses we only have a small holding I have 2 horses but i don't ride now at all .I havn't a dog that will work the sheep at the moment. we have to Chase around after the sheep to get them in for shearing worming and spraying etc not easy they are like race horses I lost my little bitch that worked the sheep 6 years ago my sheep are toooo fast to try and train a young dog on. and I wasn't experienced enough at working a dog on sheep to work the experienced dog he only came for a holiday though so he was always going back but thats why i said in the PP dog thread you need to be realy experienced to work a dog in any field that he is already trained Dell was realy doing dog jokes on me we used to have about 40 sheep and 10 milking goats we even had 2 pigs for a while to use the surplus milk on. anyone else got any livestock

Do you have any pics of your other animals?

We live on a hill farm in Scotland which forms part of a large 14,000 acre sporting estate. My hubby is farm manager, so we don't actually own this place (unfortunately) but we hope to eventually have enough to buy a small place of our own, either to run in conjunction with the work here and/or to retire to eventually

We look after 2500 blackface sheep, 6 wensleydale sheep, 19 Highland cows, 4 alpaca and I also own hens. I own a Highland mare and Shetland gelding, but they are currently on loan to an estate worker's wife, and she is in the process of buying them. It is sad, as I adore my horses, but I was finding I just didn't have time for them

Hubby has 3 fully trained sheepdogs, 3 part trained sheepdogs, and a 12 week old pup. We bred all these dogs ourselves, bar the pup - and he is by one of our dogs anyway, so is family

I think I already put pics up of most of our other animals, but will pop a few on here

Sheepdogs first

Bill

Craig

Fly

Jake

Nap

Tweed

Tip

A few ewes

Tup lambs

Cute blackie lamb

Tups

Some of our hens

Highlanders

Alpaca

Ponies

Although no piccies my boyfriend rears Wild boar, he also has sheep and moo moo's too, he has two dog's one for sheep and one for cattle, i hope to try and get Skye learning some techniques from these two as i think it's a great feeling walking through a field with livestock in and not having to worry about them being chased by the dog.....or the other way round where cows are concerned! But also a great way to keep them fit and a balanced mind

Moobli: your pictures are amazing!

I don't have anything apart from the dogs, but my hubby's uncle has a few crofts in Lewis, one of which will be ours one day. He has about 40 black faced sheep and 2 tups. It's my fav holiday each year when I'm up there and this year will be even better as he bought a new trained collie for the sheep so I'll get to work wee Tam and help with lambing.

Oo I like this thread, it's lovely to hear about your lives and love those pics Kirsty.

My kind of dream in my head would be to have a lovely tea shop and a pet's corner............ I'm not sure I actually want to do it of whether I just like going to tea shops and eating home made cakes
