Beki is a jewel in the rough
In need of some advice

Right, in need of some advice on how to handle a situation with my friend. She has a 5 year old (i think) shar pei dog called Bella.

I have met her and when you first meet her she deep belly growls at you and is not happy to have you there even when you have been there hours. she will still grumble. she has seperation issues with her dad, even when me and my mate are in the flat she will pace and be really unsettled wont keep still. she doesnt have many commands in the house that i know of (with ellie we have tought her "bed" and she will always go on her bed regardless of whats goin on around her but nothing like this with Bella)

When she was younger she was not a very sociable dog and would have a pop at other dogs and attacked a JRT once. they say they have this under controll but the last few days have got me thinking.

On Wednesday evening my mate was walking her and she broke her harness (a chunky leather one) got free and was charging at a Collie, i dont know if any contact was made but my mate said bella was proper having a go at it.

Then friday she got 'attacked' by a JRT she has wounds on her bum n face.

Then saturday they where out she got 'attacked' again and got 2 deep gashes on her face above her right eye.

Today she had to be sedated becaust the JRT had also bit her side and there was some teeth marks and a chunk of skin missing costing £170 !!

Now, I know ellie is a different breed but she is fear aggressive yet has never got into a fight like this, Could bella be sending out some kinda 'vibes'?

Also they always let her off lead when other dogs are about and these situations come up! i have mentioned it to her before but it just seems to fall on def ears! how can i make her see she needs to take control of the situation before it escolates? she is also pregnant, very early but i fear what this may add to the situation as well????

Sorry i know i have rambled but i just worry for this poor dog that it will get put in a situation that she cant handle and its gonna end badly!

It is a very awkward situation Beki. Sometimes people see what they want to see and Bella could have been "attacked" when she was charging at another dog. The amount of people who say "he only wants to play" when i can see that the dog is obviously going to have a pop.

Could you maybe try the "you could get sued" approach just to get her to realise that she has a potentially dangerous situation.

I agree its not fair on the dog to let it get itself into trouble.

what annoys me is that i do everything i possibly can to not put ellie in such situations as its not her fault and feel its my responsability to take control of the situations! and bad experiences only reinforce such behaviour, they have said that they pick her up by her harness!!!!!! to stop fights if they are in reaching distance.

Can they not see that its best to avoid these situations???? and actually deal with the situation! when her bloke first moved in with Bella she said that they would deal with her seperation issues by just putting her in kennels for the day when they where both at work??????

I have to say I'm not 100% convinced Bella was just attacked for no reason, I am inclined to agree with Sami.

They need to keep this dog leaded, poor little girl.
