Rat Poison

My neighbour put down rat poison next to our fence.

There was a small gap in the fence.
He forgot we had dogs and he came back not 5 minutes later to move it Merlin was in our garden at the time, trying to shove his head through the gap in the fence trying to eat the poison.

He rushed round and told us straight away. We put Merlin in the car and called the vet whilst we were on our way. The time between eating and getting the vet was 20 minutes maximum.

They rushed him through and gave him an injection to make him vomit and said they would keep him in until everything was out.

We went home and the neighbour came round and said that the poison bag was nibbled but he didn't think any came out. He was really apologetic and offered to pay for the vets bill.

Merlin vomited his whole stomach contents, was was wagging his tail, trying to lick the nurses and get cuddles in between puking.

He is doing okay now, but it was terrifying.
My neighbour is distraught for being so careless and the gap in the fence is fixed.

... but what a good neighbour you have, it sounds as if he was very concerned, you are very lucky on both counts

sami is a jewel in the rough
We have had trouble with mice over the winter so I had been putting traps down but no mice were falling for it. My hubby insisted on putting some posion down despite my arguments but we were very careful only to put it down where the dogs couldnt get it. Well.. Sami was very poorly at the time with her AF and the medication side effects. However she still managed to see the mouse run accross the dining room floor shoot 10ft across the room grab the mouse and run under the dining table to eat it all before I could even react. Despite me grabbing her and prizing open her mnouth she had already eaten it. Hubby was at work with the car so I couldnt get her to the vets. I spentr all day in a real panic agonising over whether said mouse had already eaten any posion and if so would one little mouse do Sami any harm. Anyway she was fine but hubby got a right earful

We have a few friends too, I refuse to put poison down as Iam too scared that Ruby will some how come in contact with it. traps dont really work' does any one know of any repelents (Ruby isnt that much of a replents because she is so dozy lol )that are proven and un harmful.
