GSDOWNER will become famous soon enough
For Pity's Sake

For Pity's Sake is a novel written for both children and adults. It's mainly aimed a children in the hope that after reading they will feel compelled to write letters to the addresses given at the back of the book and on this site to ban puppy farming.

Sadly adults have tried but failed and this cruel trade continues. Out of sheer frustration the book For Pity's Sake was written in hopes the children would read and care.

These dogs lives are in your hands so use them to write, type or email a letter. Your knowledge is their future.

I think this is a great idea, I hope that it can help....I will definitely write to the address's on the website.

I did write to my local MP about this and was brushed off with an answer that the laws are adequate as they are

Just had this back...

Dear Ms. Brown

Thank you for your correspondence dated 17/01/2009 regarding dog breeding in Wales.
The Welsh Assembly Government’s ‘Companion Animal Welfare Enhancement Scheme’ (CAWES) was set up to provide new funding to raise the profile of companion animal welfare issues in Wales and to broadly assess compliance levels with the new legislation. In addition to this, local authorities were invited to apply for funding to carry out ‘special projects’ to tackle certain issues in their area. Carmarthenshire, Cardiganshire and Pembrokeshire local authorities were successful in their application to develop special projects focusing on dog breeding. These projects will report in due course, but local authorities already respond positively to companion animal welfare concerns that are brought to their attention.

The Welsh Assembly Government has also published codes of practice for the welfare of dogs, cats and equines. The codes provide guidance to both new and existing animal owners about how to look after their animal at a level that satisfies the Animal Welfare Act 2006. The codes cover working or ‘stock’ animals, as well as pet animals. Although breach of a provision of the codes is not an offence in itself, if proceedings are brought against an owner/keeper for a welfare offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, the court may take into account the extent to which they have complied with the necessary code(s) in deciding whether an offence has been committed.

I attach a copy of the summary code of practice for the welfare of dogs for your information. If you require a copy of the main code of practice, or either the cat or equine codes, they can be downloaded from Welsh Assembly Government | Animal welfare

Whilst we have close interest in the standards used in establishing the welfare of the animals, which we believe will result in a real and effective change, the actual process of licensing, legislated for by primary legislation, is one that is for the local authority to deal with.

Yours sincerely

I got the very same one myself yesterday, as said before, it's good to get a reply, but will also add that these are merely words and do not cover the original subject matter!! We are all aware of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, they seem to have popped themelves clearly under this umbrella with no real mention of 'puppy farming', or a change for the better! So, although keeping on at them is a must, I personally feel fobbed off!
