About time, well done Middlesbrough Council, so It looks like the Kennel Club are beginning get off there backsides, and do something to stop Bad Breeders

Breeding and Sale of Dogs (Welfare) Act 1999
A dog breeder’s license is needed by anyone who keeps a bitch at any premises, where the bitch has a litter of puppies and four or more other litters are born to bitches kept by the person:
  • at the premises
  • elsewhere
  • as a part of a breeding arrangement with another person.
*wonders if my breeders holds a license.....*

I spoke to the licensing officer yesterday and this girl is a cracker. She has been keeping a log of pet adverts from her local paper then checked with the K.C. for each breed registered with them. Middlesburgh has only one licensed breeder.
We kept a database of pet adverts for three years covering Exchange & Mart, Adtrader and local papers. It was quite revealing as we found that of the 21 ads each week in the wanted pet column only three were by genuine owners, the rest were either looking for cheap stock for their breeding programme or selling that same dog a few weeks later. You would not believe the excuses these people had for selling a dog. There were six of us making these calls to find out their addresses. Wherever a dog or litter was offered free to good home we would ring the owners at 7.00am and give them the dealers' mobile nos. Some were grateful at being warned and others couldn't give a stuff where the pups went to.
