let us burst your bubble - Backyard Breeders
Backyard Breeders
Hands up those who think they know what a puppy farm looks like. Do you
conjure up visions of happy, well fed, socialised puppies playing in idyllic
surroundings with their parents? Would it perhaps be a legitimate
breeding establishment licensed and vet checked by a local authority or an
advertisement that offers pups for sale on the internet or pets column in
the newspaper that reads "home reared, pedigree pups for sale with
papers"?
Do you imagine that pups sold in pet shops or by dealers are magically
transported there from these dog havens?
Well, let us burst your bubble.
We do not use the term puppy farm, we call them back-yard breeders who con
the public into parting with vast sums of money for a pup that is often
interbred, suffering from parvo, campylobacter, hip dysplasia, liver
shunt, no hip sockets, worm infestation and a myriad other diseases. We do know,
we have recorded over 350 complaints from the public who, having bought
from a pet shop or breeder, is left with enormous veterinary bills. In a survey
of 107 case histories owners had paid out over £97,000 in vet's fees.
Pups sold in pet shops are sadly taken from these hovels, either in Wales
or Ireland, leaving the mother behind in a cage to be bred from every
season until it is disposed of.
PLEASE, DO NOT BUY FROM PET SHOPS.
