Stats

As I foster for a rescue organisation I thought I would just add a few facts that I personally can prove 100%.

I am casting my eye over my rescue list for the last 10 weeks, during this period I have fostered & rehomed 12 dogs.

8 of these dogs were born in licenced premises in Carmarthen yet have come into me from a pet shop in London & private homes all over the country, yet only one has come in from a home in Wales.

I hope the council step back & clean up the poo from their shoes.....

as I thought I was the the only pooper scooper in Wales

Oh sorry no they are all alaskan malamutes, its not one breeder but 3 or 4 in a county, which in my opinion give out the licence like toffees

Carmarthenshire is delivering breeding licences with the milk, other councils hand out licences as soon as there is a whiff of trouble, many of these puppy farms do not sell on their own doorstep but deliver to other parts of the uk, then there is no local record of complaint. Some of these farms are practically breeding straight to Rescue. The Rescues in all breeds are pooper scooping up the sad residue of these businesses.

I think it's disgusting.

I was told by the Council that the licence they actual issue covers the amount of dogs bred, provided they are cared for 'adequately', yet they don't have the resources to check !

What is the point of issuing licences then ? I think more people should make public just how these councils are getting away with handing them out like sweets, then maybe other puppy buyers might not rely on looking for licenced breeders !

There was a big to do in the dog paper havent read it as yet!!

However with some of the West Wales councils I will believe it when I see it, you only have to get up the end of the M4 & every other sign post is puppies for sale

MAKES ME SICK

sorry off rant, but yes I agree if other councils in the UK are shaping up then so should ours too

Wales is puppy farming HQ. There are plenty in England too but you do have a chance that the Councils will get off their back sides and impose what is after all nothing more than the law. Some councils are pretty good and regard animal welfare, quite correctly, as one of their duties. While we despair at some that flagrantly break the law themselves (so how on earth can they impose it) we do need to recognise the good work done by others. I hope to be able to add to the list of those working well soon. As I did last week, we should all be able to pick up the phone to a council and tell them that the breeder has sold sick puppies, has bred far more litters than is allowed without a licence, that the pups are reared in complete squalor from exhausted bitches, and receive a friendly reception with an assurance that they will visit UNANNOUNCED very soon and can I provide them with the adverts to prove the number of litters. This is how it should be everywhere in the United Kingdom.
