Smile Biting

I have just bought a GSD and she is 6 months old, When i was purchasing her of her previos owners i saw that she used to grab their hands ( Noting biting them but grabbing and letting go), Since bringing her home she keeps doing this, I respond with a "NO" and she stops but she comes back again and keeps trying it, Any tips Please

PS: I also have a one year old son and she tries it with him but she is softer mouthing him!!

This is a very comman problem, personally I would stop saying no to her it clearly isn't working.

Try folding your arms and turning away from her, you need to do this every single time she makes contact with her teeth on your skin, GSD's love to be involved and if she realises that teeth on skin = no interaction she should stop.

There will be others on here that other methods so I'm sure one will work for you.

Stay consistant and you will crack this

Yes just keep turning away even when she's nudging your hands, you need to stay consistant and she will soon learn

I did the arms folded and ignore and it worked but my dogs were a bit older. They soon work out it gets them no attention.

I have had to do this with Indi for such a long time - she is now nearly 6 months and just about gets it!

Jess is also 6 months old to, She is very very big though, from her previous owners, Alot of runs on the beach will hopefully sort this though. It doesnt help that she is long haired and she has never been trimmed. She is also of to the groomers next weekend

She is very clever so im hoping she will cotton on soon that it is not acceptable.

Il post some pics soon so you can see my bear

Ha, my boy is a year now & 6 stone - I'm only 8 stone and he starts with my feet - quite hard now, wont respond to any command, when I put my hand down to get the collar he then has my cuffs, hand, arm etc. He also has times when we are out walking when he lunges at my arm & just keeps grabbing. I'm black and blue, and he overwhelms me at times. He started obedience at 10 weeks and I had to stop cos of his over excitement. He has many good points but at present is a law unto himself. We've had him castrated and he does not do this for hubby.

With Mishka, when she mouths or used to I would say"NO TEETH" and ignore her, it worked very well for although now she will sometimes mouth at the OH but the moment he says "NO TEETH" she changes it to licking him. Quite sweet really as if she is saying "sorry, I forgot".
Having said that of course you must do it every time and I mean every time, as like children if they can get away with it just once in every 20, it is worth the try.
You say you have only just got her, so don't forget that she has to learn what the rules are and who is in charge, so make sure it is you.
