speaking on command

Hi,

Has anyone got any tips on how to get my dog to "speak" on command?
i have been trying for a couple of weeks now but with no success. He is a 4 year old GSD.

Thank you

Matt

Lol might not be something you want to encourage

BUT

I would do something that would trigger Bonnie to bark, in her case it was ring the doorbell and when she barked I said 'speak' and treated I did this loadssss of times and then tried it without the doorbell, just saying speak and when she did I treated........... I must admit she picked it up very quickly!!! and after she had mastered the speak command I added a hand signal.

Good idea above.
I must admit I taught Ted to bark by barking myself!
I also use hand signals for everything, so once he has the idea I can forget the spoken command.
I did look like a pillock standing in the kitchen and barking at my dog and my husband told me so too.
But he did get the idea quickly and then I had to tackle stopping him barking!

He he... most would probably agree I'm a bit nuts and don't care how daft I look running around like a mad woman with Bonnie

I actually think I got the tip on here TBH, I'd like to take the credit but I'm pretty sure someone told me to try it

We did that too with Diva but as you say then you have to teach the 'quiet' command and this is another kettle of fish
